Wang Jiyuan (Wujin, Jiangsu,1893-1975); 2 Chinese Watercolors of Flowers on Paper, both with red artist seal marks, one titled on back of frame #28 Fuchsia Peony, inscribed in ink to art lower left recto with initials and date '70; both matted and framed. Appear in good condition, not examined out of frames Visible height of first 7 1/4 inches (18.4 cm.) X visible width 6 3/4 inches (17.1 cm.). The second 6 3/4 inches square (17.1 cm. square) NOTE: Offered at Christie's Online Auction 20 June 2019, both as lot 91 and retaining their Christie's lot hangtags with Christie's biographical lot essay: Wang Jiyuan (1893-1975) was born in Wujin of Jiangsu province. In 1941, he came to the U.S. and founded the School of Chinese Brushwork, teaching classical Chinese paintings and calligraphy. He excelled at both Western and Chinese painting methods, especially in watercolor.
