12 inches TERRESTRIAL LIBRARY GLOBE LATE 1930 REPLOGLE unique base
This 12 inches globe was made by the American maker Replogle, one of the Chicago map maker emerging in the early 20th.century . The wood base is a staple of the regency design of the early 1920's in the manner of Duncan Phyffe . This model was the top of the line back then , by the early 1930's the maker had already started to print cardboard which was shaped in the form of 2 halves to be glued together .From the political borders I place it late 1930's , Belgium Congo , West French Africa , Ethiopia still independent and Manchuokuo present after the Japanese invasion (1935 )are present , the airline route are an interesting first on the Replogle globe , being still a new industry slowly replacing the sea route .
From Wikipedia :Replogle Globes was started by Luther Replogle (1902-1981) when, in 1930, he began selling globes which he crafted by hand in his apartment in Chicago, using maps from England. His vision was to make globes a common feature in people's households, rather than something found only in academic settings.
Size : 12" globe , H.42 with metal circle, working order. Globe in very good condition with fresh colors with unique base.I ship internationally upon request.
