Description
Pierre G. T. Beauregard Carte de Visite Signed Twice. 2.5" x 4", with a Washburn's, New Orleans logo on the mount at bottom. An oval bust portrait of Beauregard, seen wearing his Confederate uniform. Signed "G.T. Beauregard 1865" at the bottom margin of the albumen and "G.T. Beauregard Ex. Genl. C.S.A. New Orleans, La Nov. 24, 1887" on verso. Known as "Napoleon in Gray", Beauregard fought at the First Battle of Bull Run and commanded armies in the Western Theater. He was also in command at Shiloh and the Siege of Corinth. As one of the first generals in the Provisional Army of the Confederate States, Beauregard later became one of only eight officers made full generals in the Confederate Army. From the Bret J. Formichi American Civil War Rarities Collection. Condition: With a purple stamp on verso, "Darwin C. Pavey". Light edge toning to the mount, with slight wear to the corners. Light soiling at the bottom edge of the mount. On verso, there is a strip of paper mounted to the top edge, which does not affect the signature.
