Description
1844 1st ed American Revolution John Burgoyne Campaign Indians Neilson

In 1777, during the American Revolutionary War, British General John Burgoyne initiated a campaign that would attempt to control the Hudson River Valley. This raid became known as Burgoyne’s Campaign; however, the attempt was thwarted and the American victory was the catalyst in France joining the war aligning with the United States.

Charles Neilson was an American author who is primarily remembered for his accounts of the Revolutionary War. “Account of Burgoyne’s Campaign” includes a thorough description of parts of the American Revolution, but it also covers various topics including Native American Indians and how American military officers strong-armed Indians into not siding with the British during the war.

According to Sabin, this work was written in order to aid in the sale of the author’s home. Curiously, he claimed that it was the only one remaining from the use by the American Army during the battle of Bemis Heights – his home was nowhere near the site.
