Item Details
Description
Unusual Rookwood Standard glaze mug painted in 1896 by Matt Daly, perhaps a tribute to his famous teacher, Frank Duveneck. In 1887, Duveneck created one of his most important works, a painting of a young lad smoking a cigar which he entitled The Cobbler's Apprentice. This is clearly Daly's homage to Duveneck although not nearly so well done. Marks include the company logo, which indicates the date, shape number 775 and the artist's full name, partially impressed and partially incised. Height 7 inches. There is fine overall crazing and two tiny glaze nicks on the top corners of the handle.
