Description
Good Spanish water jug, thrown in 1882 and decorated by Rookwood's founder, Maria Longworth Nichols. Mrs. Nichols incised a very detailed design onto the vessel and then painted bats flying beneath a crescent moon, near some berry filled branches, and enhanced with fired on gold. Impressed Rookwood in block letters, the date, shape 41, a Y for yellow clay and having Mrs. Nichols incised initials. Excellent original condition. Height is 8 3/4 inches.
