Description
[Chicago] The New Chicago, Burlington & Quincy R.R. Depot / On Canal Street, between Madison and Adams Streets. Chicago: Drant & Hawtin, Engs., ca. 1881. Color engraved railroad advertisement, bearing a street scene depicting the railroad depot, the street filled with carriages and pedestrians, with inset illustrations of the interior staircase and entrance. 11 x 14”. Old mended tears at lower margin, creased upper left corner; short closed tears, one slightly into the image; minor soiling. The building shown is “Union Depot,” completed in 1881 and which preceded Union Station as Chicago’s main railroad depot. This advertisement probably dates close to its opening, or about 1881. The engravers, Drant & Hawtin, whose prints are scarcely seen, formed a partnership in 1877 (History of Cook County, Andreas, p. 553).
