Description
This is a Chicago Burlington and Quincy Railroad 1934 poster promoting the initial exhibition of the railroads Zephyr streamlined diesel passenger train, at San Francisco’s Southern Pacific Railroads Third and Townsend Street passenger station on June 18-19, 1934. This famous train set a world speed record between Denver and Chicago on May 26, 1934, while taking passengers to the Century of Progress Exposition, and then toured the country to the delight of thousands of visitors, stopping in major cities. This poster is from the San Francisco stop. The poster measures 22.5 inches by 36.5 inches. It has been archivally mounted and custom framed by Flax Art in San Francisco, including ultraviolet protective plastic on the front. The condition of the poster is average, as it has many folds, frays, and tears, but is complete as mounted, missing only small pieces. Mounting this rare item in a frame for preservation was definitely the way to go due to the age and type of paper upon which it was printed. It is a rare and unusual poster, as few have survived from the national tour. CBQ fans will love to add this to their collection!
