Chinese Ming Dynasty period blue and white phoenix peony jar. Thick potted in a globular body, sturdy porcelain jar with robust shoulder region curving into a heavy toward the rounded shoulder, gently tapered to the prominent short neck with wide opening, raised on round small flat base. All reserved hand painted ornamentations are rendered in clean white underglaze base color which contrast against the cobalt blue fine color. The main body adorned with heron bird in grass among the peony flowers blooms interspersed with fresh foliage. Scrolling tendril and lotus flowers blooms decorated on the shoulder, enclosed with double fine blue rings lines. The upper neck festooned with scrolling ruyi clouds, enclosed with double fine blue rings lines. The foot base rim decorated with geometric pattern enclosed with thick blue ring lines. The color is balanced, elegant and exquisite. This piece displays a subtle sheen as the light ricochets across the finely exterior, glazed smooth, brilliant with a moist appearance, the finishing meticulous. The underside unglazed, revealed the pale-creme ground and dark grayish brown spotted firing marks and edge-cut foot rim.
