Georges Kars, painting, Georges Kars (American, 1882-1945), Figures on Park Bench, watercolor on paper, signed "Kars" at upper left, 9"h x 11.75"w (sight), 18"h x 20"w (frame)
Notes/Literature: In 1908 Kars settled in Montmartre at the time of the Cubist revolution where he met Suzanne Valadon and Maurice Utrillo and was well connected to the Paris artist community. After the First World War he renewed his friendship with Pascin, Chagall, Apollinaire, Max Jacob, art critic Maurice Raynal and Greek painter Demetrius Galanis. He spent the summer of 1923 in Segalas, Hautes-Pyrenees region, with Suzanne Valadon's family.
