Description
Kingfisher Feather Court Woman's Headdress, China, 18th/19th century, the wire-framed soft-silk-woven crown decorated with sprig-mounted motifs inlaid with kingfisher feathers, the central front with a pearl-ornamented bat on a Shuangxi-character ground, flanked by a roundel on either side, one with peony, peaches, and a bat, the other with a butterfly flying atop flowers, the back dominantly and lavishly decorated with kingfisher feathers interspersed with coral, tourmaline, colored glass teardrops, pearls, and gilding, with auspicious motifs such as antique objects, phoenix, flowers, undulating leaves, and butterflies, ht. 7 1/2, lg. 11 in.
