This lot consists of an unsigned ink and gouache painting on board. A playful rendering of the beloved and ever-dapper "Cat in the Hat" character created and made famous by illustrator Theodor Seuss Geisel (American, 1904-1991). A wash of tangerine orange creates a vibrant backdrop to a grinning Cat in the Hat. This framed piece is full of warmth and detail, a sure highlight to any collection. Overall measures approximately 17.75" x 14.75". Image sight measures approximately 14.75" x 11.75".

Reverse side of mid-century frame reveals torn paper backing with a late-20th century pattern peeking through. A small stamp at top of frame reads, "Frames by Don. 220 Main Street. Seal Beach, Calif. Ph. 430-4034."

Theodor Seuss Geisel (American, 1904-1991), commonly known as "Dr. Seuss", was an American children's author, political cartoonist, illustrator, poet, animator, screenwriter, and filmmaker. Seuss distinguished himself early on with his professional work in advertising art. With the onset of WWII, Seuss turned his creative powers toward political cartooning, and lastly came to design for books and film. Some of his most iconic characters include the Cat in the Hat, Sam I Am, Thing One and Thing Two, and many, many more.
