Description
This lot consists of a large oil painting on stretched canvas, done in the richly modern style of Diego Rivera (Mexican,1886 -1957). Hand inscription at bottom reads, "Diego Rivera 1937." Image depicts a busy social scene, populated by legions of smiling figures in garments of black and white. Executed in the Social Realist style for which Diego Rivera is so beloved. This impressive modern art masterpiece would be a highlight to any art collector's gallery. Overall unframed canvas measures approximately 43.5" x 31".
Diego Rivera (Mexican, 1886 -1957) was a foremost painter in his time. Rivera's large frescoes helped establish the Mexican mural movement, and were a vibrant celebration of traditional Mexican culture. Between 1922 and 1953, Rivera painted murals in places from Mexico City to Chapingo, Cuernavaca, San Francisco, Detroit, and New York City. In 1931, a retrospective exhibition of his works was held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Rivera shared a tumultuous marriage with the painter Frida Kahlo (Mexican, 1907-1954). Their union traversed illness, political intrigue, personal struggle, and a mutual artistic respect. Rivera passed away in 1957 at the age of 71.

Overall excellent condition. Colors remain vibrant and true. Minor discoloration visible on reverse side of canvas. No tears, stains, etc. Please review photos for further detail.
