Africa, Niger, Bura Asinda-Sikka culture, ca. 3rd to 11th century CE. A memorial head made of baked terracotta, modelled in a characteristically phallic form with a pronounced vertical nose featuring perforations at upper end to represent the eyes and two at the lower end for nostrils, large applied brows to either side of the nose, partial perforations on the head to delineate the coiffure, and two applied forms below - perhaps to represent lips and/or joined hands from the Bura-Asinda-Sikka culture along the lower Niger River valley in Niger and Burkina Faso.
