This is a terracotta head fragment from a sculpture from the Bura culture, Niger, West Africa, circa- 12th - 14th century AD. Terracotta works of the Bura-Asinda-Sikka culture come from a single region located north-west of Niamey, the capital of Niger.Terracotta works excavated here date to the 3rd - 11th centuries. This head fragment is completely flat, and decorated with longitudinal bulges in relief. The Fragment measures 6 x 4 inches. Provenance: A Private New Jersey collection.
