A most interesting Continental reverse oil painting on glass depicting an interior scene with gentlement playing games of backgammon. Signed with "MS" stylized initials to lower left and dated 1764. It is possible that this work was made in that year and was very well preserved, but based on the vividness of the colors we suspect the piece to have been made in the 19th century. Mounted in an antique wooden frame. Glass panel measures approx. 11 1/4" height x 15 3/8" width (28.6cm x 39cm). Measures approx. 14 1/2" height x 18 1/2" width (36.8cm x 47cm) overall including frame.
