Description
A large Near Eastern bronze dagger, c. 1200 - 800 BC, handle and blade cast as one piece, the blade of narrow leaf-shape form with central rounded midrib, the shoulders very narrow with crescent shaped ridges. The handle with rounded pommel, the sides with flanges around the edges to hold inlay in another substance. L: 16 1/2 in (41.8cm). A large and attractive example with nice mottled patination and some edge losses. Cf. Moorey, P.R.S., Ancient Persian Bronzes in the Ashmolean Museum (1971), p.72, no. 48 for a published example. Ex Hudson, MA private collection, acquired in Israel in the late 1960's.
