1772 Impressive Vellum Customs Appointment Document with Lords Commissioners of The Treasury Great Seal Intact
(KING GEORGE III) (1860-1820). King of England / Great Britain and King of Ireland from October 1760 until the union of the two countries in January 1801, after which he was King of the United Kingdom until his death, ruled during the American Revolution and War of 1812 Era.
July 2, 1772-Dated, Huge Impressive Vellum Manuscript Document, measuring 28" x 21", England, Choice Very Fine. A stunning massive King George III Letters Patent appointing "Edward Smith Esquire to the said office of our Customs in our port of Bristol" and indicating this is a "23 year warrant from the Lords Commissioners of The Treasury". Small pale stain located to the middle with a small intact tear. Two other small red stains along outer edge. Upper left corner trimmed. Verso docketed with "Edward Smith Esquire Office", Great Seal appended with decorative cord. The massive 5.5" diameter Official Embossed Wax Seal is in overall good condition, with a 1" triangular piece missing, and professional restoration to secure the deep cracks, typical storage folds. The relief patterns are still quite enhanced. Neatly secured and protected within its tin/metal case. Scarce with Seal. Excellent for display.
