Description
QUILL JEFFREY: (1913-1996) English Test Pilot, the second man to fly the Supermarine Spitfire. T.L.S., Jeffrey Quill, one page, 4to, Weybridge, Surrey, 17th March 1958, to H.T. Tremelling ('My dear Trem'), on the printed stationary of Vickers-Armstrong. Quill states that he was sorry to miss seeing his correspondent and adds 'I shall miss meeting you about the house, and the chats we used to have about this and that. I hope you will have a very happy retirement - although I feel you shouldn't have retired so early in life!! - and will enjoy a well earned rest and time to devote to other interests.' Together with a small selection of other letters etc. signed by Norman Holbrook VC (ink signature on a large page removed from an autograph album, dated 10th March 1916 in his hand), Duke of Bedford (2) etc. Also including a small miscellaneous group of ephemera including hardback editions of Spitfire by Taylor and Allward, First Edition published by The Harborough Publishing Company Ltd., Leicester, 1946, with many illustrations, bearing the ownership signature of H.T. Tremelling, and Aircraft - From Airship to Jet Propulsion 1908-1948 by Bonner W.A. Dickson, published for Vickers-Armstrong Ltd by the Naldrett Press Ltd., London, with many illustrations, both accompanied by the dust wrappers (tears); also including colour illustrations and prints of various aircraft (Vickers Valiant and Supermarine Swift etc.), one signed by H.J. Proctor, and also including an attractive, large 12.5 x 16 colour drawing featuring Tremelling, drawn and signed by Southwell on the occasion of his retirement. Generally G to about VG, 15
