Description
Striking combination of the pale turquoise glaze with the black floral painting make this vase stand out. The painting and potting are expertly done. The vase is a tall cylinder of porcelain. It has a white base glaze that has a slight blue tinge. This has been covered in a thin pale turquoise glaze. The turquoise glaze is smooth and looks shiny. It is thin and shows areas that are thinner and not as blue. The vase is richly decorated with incised Grisaille-style chrysanthemums and magnolias with their stems, which have been painted with a dry black glaze. This is the “Dayazhai autumn” pattern (minus a magpie). The mouth has a gilded edge. The vase is hand potted. You can see the potter’s wheel marks on the unglazed foot ring. The foot ring is shallow and cut. The base is glazed. There is a stamped mark on the base in iron red but it is mainly drilled out. The vase was made into a lamp. MEASUREMENTS 11 3/8” (28.9 cm) tall x 4 7/8” (12.4 cm) diameter. Weighs 3 lb 3.4 oz (1.455 kg) CONDITION There is gilding loss around the mouth of the vase. There is a small rim chip. There are no other chips. The vase was drilled for a lamp. The vase has no cracks or repairs. There are two imperfections along the inside of the rim that are kiln flaws that have been glazed over. It rings like a bell. The colors are bright and fresh looking. A colorful, detailed vase that will stand out in a dark room with its pale color and distinctive design. Please note that the stand that is in one photos is not included.
