Description: In excellent condition, this FCB Knights of Pythias Sword and Scabbard is marked Pettibone, Cincinnati Ohio. The clamshell displays the letters "UR" (Uniformed Ranks) which was a militant faction of the Knights of Pythias, now disbanded (believed in the 1950s).The Knights of Pythias is a fraternal organization and secret society founded in Washington, D.C., in February, 1864. The Knights of Pythias is the first fraternal organization to receive a charter under an act of the United States Congress. Founded by Justus H. Rathbone, who had been inspired by a play by the Irish poet John Banim about the legend of Damon and Pythias. Material: mixed metal; leather. Measurement: approximate 37"l in scabbard.
