Description
A fine old Senufo or Dioula peoples mask made by a village blacksmith in Mali, Africa. Metal face masks were called do muso (wife of do) by the Kong Diula and appeared in public during great Muslim celebrations such as Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, and which is followed by the Kourbi-ba maidens' feast, itself followed in turn by the masked Lo dances. This mask is a tribute to the feminine ideal which is celebrated through the muted beauty of its narrow face with its taut curves and sleek features, and the contained expression of the half-closed eyes. The mask has a custom display stand included.Dimensions: The mask measures 9 x 5.5 inches ( 13 inches on stand)
