Description
Early 18th century AD. A clear glass goblet with tapering sides, balustered stem and domed base, domed lid with knop handle; the body with three round engraved panels depicting the imperial eagle, crossed sword and sceptre with orb and crown, monogram of Peter I (Peter the Great) each with fronds, rosettes and tendrils surrounding; three columns each of three lenses positioned to display the opposing heraldic elements; engraved rosettes and fronds to the base and lid. Property of a gentleman collector; formerly in an old Austrian collection since the the 1990s. The three columns of small lenses are positioned to display elements of the opposite design, so that e.g. the lenses between the eagle and crown when viewed from the appropriate angle display (top) the imperial crown (bottom) the imperial monogram (middle) both crown and monogram together.

Very fine condition. Rare with lid.
