Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. mid-20th century CE. A beautiful ceremonial sword known as a kris (keris). The handle is hand-carved from coffee-hued hard wood and displays a pair of abstract anthropomorphic masks along the interior curve. A brass separation disc rests between the handle and the thick blade guard, and has 8 faceted semi-precious stones of red and clear hues inset into circular bezels. The forged-steel blade has a straight profile with sharpened blade edges, a pointed tip, and waves of lighter material folded into the composition. The elegant sheath is formed from several conjoined pieces of wood boasting a palette of light and dark brown hues, and exhibits a pair of tight spirals beneath the upper body. Size: 4" W x 19.125" H (10.2 cm x 48.6 cm); size (blade): 12.75" L (32.4 cm).

Minor nicks and oxidation to blade, and light abrasions to handle and sheath, otherwise intact and very good. Light earthen deposits along blade.
