Oil on Board by Carlo Canevari showing a nun and priest, the nun deep in her breviary, the priest distracted by a fetching young woman balancing a water jar on her head. Signed lower right. Housed in a gilt wood and green velvet frame. Stamped to verso "Florence Art Gallery, 3 Via Tornabuoni, Florence, (Italy)". Sight: approx. 8" x 13 1/2". Frame, approx. 17 1/4" x 23".
Provenance: From the estate of Dr. Milton T. Edgerton (1921 - 2018.) A trailblazing plastic surgeon, Dr. Edgerton joined the University of Virginia to found the Department of Plastic Surgery in 1970. He has been called an unsung hero, and "one of America’s most daring and influential plastic surgeons."
