BIOGRAPHY:
Born in Florence, Pio Ricci was a portraitist and genre painter. He studied at the Accademia di Belle Arte and naturally exhibited most of his works there, though he was also known to have exhibited in Turin. Ricci was incredibly skilled at painting in detail. In particular, his ability to observe and accurately portray fabric, especially in the dresses of his sitters, was considered to be on par with Charles Soulacroix (1858-1933).
