Description
1829 Sextus Aurelius Victor Christoph Harles Roman History Moral Virtue Delphini
Sextus Aurelius Victor (c. 320-390) was a Roman historian and politician. Aurelius Victor was a model of temperance and was made consular governor of Pannonia Secunda by the Emperor Julianus in year 361 and afterwards prefect of the city. He was of African descent who loved learning, human kindness, and virtue above all else. He was opinionated in his histories, condemning the moral decline in Rome.
Gottlieb Christoph Harless (1738–1815) was a German classical scholar and bibliographer. His numerous editions of classical authors were valuable at the time because they summarized earlier scholarship for the benefit of the student.
This edition is the collected works of Aureleius Victor from the series ‘Scriptores latini in usum Delphini’ and edited by Christoph Harless.
