Description
1672 Eutropius Breviarium History ROME Valens Pagan Persia Latin Aurelius Victor
Eutropius was an Ancient Roman historian whose ‘Breviarium Historiae Romanae’ covers the history of Rome to the earliest times through the reign of Valens. Eutropius’s ‘Breviarium’ is known as one of the most thorough histories of Rome and was regularly used and referenced by Roman historians and chroniclers. (Lieu, p. 77). This record is known to cover lesser-known pagan topics that were omitted from more significant histories as well as Julian expeditions against Persians; unfortunately, Eutropius had to rely on histories such as Livy’s to complete the early sections of his work. After Eutropius’s death, ‘Breviarium’ was enlarged, enhanced, and continued through the 11th-century and featured many of the 4th-century edits of Sextus Aurelius Victor.
