Description
**Originally Listed At $100**
Northern Italy, Villanovan culture, ca. 9th to 8th century BCE. A fibula (brooch) made of rounded sheet bronze with a heavy clasp and pin joined to the body through a spiral hinge. The form of the body resembles a deep-keeled boat. The raised lines on the exterior of this example help create the boat-like appearance, as they look like wooden boards. Fibulae of this type are found almost exclusively in the graves of women from the later Villanovan and Etruscan period, although the Greeks based some fibula forms on the Etruscan examples in the 7th century BCE. Size: 4.45" W x 1.7" H (11.3 cm x 4.3 cm); 3.3" H (8.4 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: ex-private United Kingdom collection, acquired in the 1980s
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
