Roman Empire, Egypt, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. This petite yet sturdy mold-made terracotta vessel features a raised ring base, smoothed and rounded sides with a raised spine leading up to a pinched tab-shaped handle, rounded shoulders with four concentric rings comprised of raised dots, a recessed fill hole, and a short wick spout. While diminutive, this lamp is quite heavy due to the thick pottery comprising the structure. Size: 2.75" L x 2.125" W x 1.5" H (7 cm x 5.4 cm x 3.8 cm).
Provenance: private Ventura, California, USA collection acquired before 1980
