Description
Harry Everett Townsend (American, 1879-1941). A charcoal and gouache on paper illustration depicting military soldiers titled "A Rough Crowd But All Die Hards". Initialed lower left. Framed under glass. Mat opening: 9-1/4in x 7-1/4in. Townsend was a student of Howard Pyle. In 1917, he was commissioned with seven other artists to record the First World War. His paintings and drawings are in the collection of the Smithsonian and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York Public Library, and Free Library of Philadelphia.
