Provenance: From a California collection.

About the artist: Manishi Dey (India, 1909-1966) was the brother of Mukul Dey, an important figure in early modern art of India. Manishi travelled and showed his works all across India during his lifetime. He studied with many other influential artists of his country including Indian artists, poets and cultural icon Abanindranath Tagore.  This work is an early modernist oil painting in the manner of the Bengal School of Art and appears to have been created while Manishi was working with Tagore.
Note: Manishi Dey is the brother of another influential Indian artist, Mukul Dey. Manishi studied with famous Indian poet Abanindranath Tagore and this work's title is a fragment of a Tagore poem.
