Franklin D. Roosevelt. 8" x 10 ½" autograph note, "Restricted," signed "Roosevelt," in pencil, "For Secretary of State (Cordell Hull), (no date). "I hope that Secretary Lacelles will return to Washington from Ottawa after I get back as some plans spoken of in press dispatches do not seem wise. This relates especially to visit to the battery in New York." Alan Frederick "Tommy" Lascelles was a British courtier and civil servant who held several positions in the first half of the 20th century, culminating in his position as Private Secretary to both King George VI and to Queen Elizabeth II. This letter was written while Roosevelt was aboard the U. S. S. Houston, to be telegraphed or radioed, there is a small stain affecting one word of the text.
