FRANCIS ELIAS SPINNER (1802-1890). Appointed by President Lincoln as Treasurer of the United States and served from March 16, 1861, throughout the Civil War until his resignation on July 1, 1875. He successfully urged the employment of women in the Treasury Department.
March 20, 1872-Dated, Partly-Printed Document Signed, "F.E. Spinner" as Treasurer of the United States, measuring 8" x 10", 1 page, Washington (D.C.), Choice Very Fine. An original United States Treasury Document addressed to the Cashier of the First National Bank at Worcester, Massachusetts, regarding a transfer deposit of $10,000 (Ten Thousand dollars). Transmittal folds and faint humidity tone at upper left. Beautifully Signed, "F. E. Spinner" as Treasurer United States.
