Description
French, early 18th century; carved walnut armchair with curved arms; rising on cabriole legs and "X" frame stretcher; upholstered in polychrome floral needlework. Approx. w. 23.625", h. 45", d. 23.5". Provenance: Purchased in 1936 at a chateau auction conducted by La Salle Drouot, for the Private Collection of Count Franciszek Xawery Pininski. Count Pininski, a Polish Air Attache in Paris, fled with his family in June, 1940. This piece and others spent the war being used by the Axis military until they were saved by friends of the family and stored until 1956, when Countess Pininska returned to Paris to bring the antiques to Canada.
Condition
Rubbing to needlework; damage to back legs; inactive insect activity.
