Pre-Columbian, Peru, Salinar, ca. 300 BCE to 200 CE. A fabulously expressive mold-made terracotta vessel in the form of a monkey's head - the simian creature's lively visage comprised of wide-opened almond-shaped eyes, a perky nose, naturalistically modeled ears, and an open mouth revealing a toothy grin - all beneath a dramatically flared rim. Size: 4.75" W at widest point x 5.75" H (12.1 cm x 14.6 cm)

Provenance: private Southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s
