Item Details
Description
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built and highly-burnished pottery vessel of a large form with a rounded base, a wide, tapering body with two projecting elements, and a tubular spout with a slanted lip, all covered in a lustrous red-orange slip. One lateral projection is large and fin-shaped while the other is short and conical, and both represent a popular style of ancient Mesoamerican mace head. By holding this vessel upside-down, one can imagine what the weapon would look like when mounted atop a slender wooden pole. Size: 9.5" W x 10" H (24.1 cm x 25.4 cm).
