Southern Italy, Apulia, ca. early 4th Century BCE. A sweet pair of Apulian pottery vessels. First, a petite oinochoe (pouring vessel) with a trefoil lip and a delicate arched handle bridging rim to shoulder. Its piriform body stands on a ringed foot and is almost entirely covered with black glaze that has attained a shimmery iridescence. A few details in fugitive white/orange-yellow paint on the shoulder and a red ring above the base add interest to the surface. Paired with this is a round salt dish upon a concave foot. Size: oinochoe measures 2.75" W x 4.875" H (7 cm x 12.4 cm); salt dish measures 3" W x 1.25" H (7.6 cm x 3.2 cm)

Condition
Some encrustation to base and spout of oinochoe. Salt dish just shows slight surface wear. Overall very good.
