Item Details
Description
**First Time At Auction**

Magna Graecia, southern Italy, Apulia, ca. 4th Century BCE. A dainty blackware vessel sitting on a petite footed base. The bowl walls rise upward to a rim, slightly rounded inward to prevent any contents from spilling out. The black glaze has developed a nice silvery iridescence over the ages and the dish sits nicely in the palm of a hand. This vessel was used for holding salt and other spices, and is a fine example of the pottery Apulian workshops exported throughout the Mediterranean. Size: 3.125" W x 1.75" H (7.9 cm x 4.4 cm)

Provenance: ex-Estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA acquired before 2000
