Description
1856 George Peabody American Banking Philanthropy Winslow Homer Art
George Peabody (1795–1869) was an American financier and philanthropist. He is widely regarded as the father of modern philanthropy. He became the most noted American banker and helped to establish the young country's international credit. He took on Junius Spencer Morgan as a partner in 1854 and their joint business would go on to become J.P. Morgan & Co. after Peabody's 1864 retirement.
Winslow Homer was a 19th-century American landscape painter and printmaker, best known for his marine subjects. He is considered one of the foremost painters in 19th-century America and a preeminent figure in American art.
This novel ‘Proceedings at the Reception and Dinner in Honor of George Peabody,’ is a recording of an appreciation dinner for Mr. Peabody on his return to his home town and the people and events that took place.
