1803 American Revolution George Washington Chaplain MacWhorter Bible Sermons
Alexander Macwhorter was an American Presbyterian minister of Scottish descent. He served the First Presbyterian Church in Newark from 1759 until his death in 1807. Macwhorter combined his ecclesiastical role with patriotic fervor during the Revolution and traveled with George Washington to Trenton as a spiritual advisor for Washington’s troops during the Christmas attack on the Hessians. After the Battle of Trenton, Macwhorter served as Chaplain to the Brigade of General Henry Knox. Rev. Macwhorter returned to Newark in 1783 and resumed his role of Pastor. There he helped formulate the Constitution of the Presbyterian Church of the United States.
The book ‘A series of sermons’ contains 84 sermons on the most important foundational aspects of Christianity including prayer, parenting, horrors of sin, and the life of Jesus Christ.
