Declaration Signer John Morton & Lexington Minuteman
JOHN MORTON, (1725-1777). Signer of the Declaration of Independence. DANIEL HOPKINS, Minuteman who answered the call for the Lexington Alarm, April 19, 1775.
Lot of Two Historical Autographs:
1. Cut Signature, "John Morton Sheriff", written on the back of a Pay Order, in rich brown ink on clean fresh laid period paper, 1.25" x 4", Choice Extremely Fine. Morton was the first of the Declaration Signers to pass away. This example in lovely condition having no visible marks or detractions, written and cut from the back of a Pay Order ticket with attached paper seal.
2. July 1, 1789-Dated, Partly-Printed Document Signed, "Dan. Hopkins", 2.75" x 7.5", at Hartford, Connecticut, Choice Crisp Mint. Being a receipt of Ward Puke's balance of money due from Oliver Wolcott, Comptroller, for the State of Connecticut. This payment was for his Service in the Connecticut Line of the Continental Army which was lodged with the Treasury in Hartford. (2 items).
