Description
**Originally Listed At $800**
Central Asia, Scythian, ca. 5th to 4th century BCE. A lengthy forged iron dagger with a wide and flat handle, a curved semicircular pommel, a wide guard, and a long, hammered iron blade which tapers to a point. The word 'akinakes' (or acinaces) refers to a particular style of short dagger used primarily in ancient Central Asian cultures like Scythian and early Persian. While bronze versions of akinakes are far more uncommon than their iron counterparts, finding intact iron examples like this one are quite rare especially in an extremely corrosive environment like the Black Sea.
