Description
This is a carved wooden snake sculpture or headdress from the Baga peoples of Guinea, West Africa. The snake, known locally as Kalimbe, or Bansonyi, refers to a protective spirit manifested in the form of a snake that presides over male initiation ceremonies among the Baga. The sculpture has been decorated with incised geometric designs and black & white mineral pigments. The snake measures 37 inches tall ( 41 inches tall on professional custom display stand.)
