Description
This is an enormous carved wooden snake sculpture or headdress from the Baga peoples of Guinea, West Africa. The snake, known locally as Kalimbe, or Bansonyi, refers to a protective spirit manifested in the form of a snake that presides over male initiation ceremonies among the Baga. The sculpture has been decorated with incised geometric designs and colorful mineral pigments. The snake measures 71 inches tall x 12 inches wide, that is nearly 6 foot tall! Includes custom display stand.
