Description
A large Greek red-figure high handled oinochoe depicting a lady of fashion, Apulia, 4th Century BC, the vessel in fine condition and lavishly decorated with the head of a woman in profile, hair pulled back in sakkos with hair pins, floral elements around and palmette device below handle. Below the scene are parallel horizontal lines and a single above, a beautifully rendered wave pattern around the base of the neck, long white tongues around the neck and well-modeled trefoil pouring spout with tall strap handle. H: 11 1/8 in (28.1cm). A lovely example with very well-preserved surfaces and light deposits. Ex collection of Elizabeth S. Loker, former Vice President of the Washington Post.
