With 113 hand-colored lithographed maps throughout (23 are double-page), 2 full-page black and white maps (London and Paris), plus insets, all on 99 map-sheets; a steel-engraved plate before the title page ; 4 hand-colored plates (3 are double-page, including the major mountains and rivers of the world, the National & Commercial Flags of All Nations, charts, etc.). (Folio) 17½x14¾, original half sheep and blue cloth, decoratively stamped and lettered in gilt, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt.
Contains numerous sought after North America and United States maps, many with insets. More than half of the maps are of the Americas. The double-page maps include: The World; various Dominions of Canada; United States; New York (with 7 insets); New York City; Florida; Texas (with 4 insets); Nebraska (with early configuration); California and the Southwestern states, plus others and of the world. Full-page U.S. city maps include: Washington DC, Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Savannah/Charleston, Louisville/New Orleans, Pittsburgh/Cincinnati, and St. Louis/Chicago. Phillips Atlases 3564.
