Original Watercolor By Connecticut Artist Herbert Jacob Gute (1908-1977)


Information from gallery on back, purchased from MUNSON GALLERY in New Haven CT prior to 1955 (as it was a wedding gift in 1955). Information states that Herbert J. Gute Born 1908, studied at Pratt Institute and Yale University. Represented in many group exhibitions throughout the United States. A member of the Connecticut Academy, Pennsylvania Water Color Society, New Haven Paint and Clay Club, New York and American Water Color Society.

Since 1940 made illustrations for ten books and illustrations for Fortune Magazine. In 1945 executed mural at Submarine Base, New London, CT (54 feet long, seven panels)

Some foxing to matt - some surface foxing under glass. Only two tiny foxing spots to watercolor - artwork is in very good condition, good color retention.
