Description
Pre-Columbian, north coast of Peru, late Moche to Sican/Lambayeque culture, ca. 650 to 1000 CE. A fascinating and highly decorated, mold-made blackware stirrup vessel, its surface decorated with motifs of battle - two human warriors strangle their opponents, their bodies linked together in combat on the ground, watched over by anthropomorphic figures wearing large bird-shaped headdresses. The successful warriors wear fish-shaped headdresses. Size: 6.75" W x 9.35" H (17.1 cm x 23.7 cm)

Provenance: private southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s

Small probe hole on one side. Stable crack that does not affect the integrity of the piece near the handle. Otherwise in excellent condition with light encrustation in the lower profile areas.
