Description
Pre-Columbian, Maya Territories, Guatemala, Peten region, ca. 550 to 850 CE. Lovely and fascinating pottery tripod with bold decoration! Almost a cross between a plate and a bowl with concave surface painted in orange, red and black. Central decoration features a fantastic underworld fish-monster with open mouth, swirled eye and feathery fins.
